Question

If, A: Every whole number is a natural number
R : 0 is not a natural number.
Then which of the following statement is true?

  1. A is false and R is the correct explanation of A.
  2. A is true and R is false.
  3. A is true and R is the correct explanation of A.
  4. Both A and R are true.

A
A is true and R is the correct explanation of A.
B
A is true and R is false.
C
A is false and R is the correct explanation of A.
D
Both A and R are true.
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The set of whole numbers is 0,1,2,3,...... where 0 is the least whole number.

The set of natural numbers is 1,2,3,.......

From the above statements, we conclude that every natural number is a whole number but every whole number is not a natural number because 0 is not a natural number.

Therefore, 0 is not a natural number and this proves that every whole number is not a natural number.

Hence, the statement A is false and R is the correct explanation of A.
