Question

If AgNO3 solution is added in excess to 1 M solution of CoCl3.XNH3, one mole of AgCl is formed. What is the value of x ?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

If AgNO3 solution is added in excess to 1 M solution of CoCI3.XNH3, one mole of AgCI is formed. The value of x is 4. Since one mole of AgCl is formed, the ionization sphere contains 1 chloride ion and the coordination sphere contains 2 chloride ions.

The coordination number of the complex is 6. Thus, 4 ammonia molecules are present in the coordination sphere.
