Question

If E1,E2 and E3 are the kinetic energies of a proton, α -particle and deuteron respectively, which all have the same wavelength, then
  1. E1>E3>E2
  2. E1>E2>E3
  3. E3>E2>E1
  4. E3>E1>E2

A
E1>E2>E3
B
E3>E1>E2
C
E1>E3>E2
D
E3>E2>E1
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The wavelength λ is same for all three particles.
λ=hmu
m is mass and u is velocity.
The product mu will also be same.
The particle with higher m value will have lower u value
The kinetic energy =12mu2=12×mu×u
The particle with lower u value will have lower kinetic energy.
Thus, the particle with higher m value will have lower kinetic energy.
The increasing order of mass is m1<m3<m2.
The decreasing order of kinetic energy is E1>E3>E2.
Note:, m1, m2 and m3 are masses of proton, α particle and deuteron respectively.
