Question

If photosynthesis proceeds for an hour in atmosphere with radioactive CO2, labelled carbon will be mostly found in
  1. Sugar
  2. Starch
  3. 3- phosphoglyceraldehyde
  4. All of the above

A
Sugar
B
Starch
C
3- phosphoglyceraldehyde
D
All of the above
Solution
Verified by Toppr

During photosynthesis, atmospheric carbon dioxide will be consumed by the plant, which can be used as carbon source for synthesis of both starch and sugars. As, 3- phosphoglyceraldehyde is the intermediate for synthesis of starch or sugar, labelled carbon also present in 3- phosphoglyceraldehyde. Thus, labelled carbon will be found in sugar, 3- phosphogleceraldehyde and starch.
So, the correct answer is option D.
