To find the focal length of the lens for an object placed in air in the given arrangement
Solution:
Using the formula for the refraction through curved surface for first surface, we get
μ2vμ1u=μ2μ1R1.5v1u=1.5120.....(i)
Using the formula for the refraction through curved surface for second surface, we get
μ3vμ2v=μ2μ1R43v1.5v=431.520.....(ii)
Adding (i) and (ii),we get
1.5v1u+43v1.5v=1.5120+431.5201u+43v=0.520+(0.167)20
For, u= and v=f
1+43f=0.5+0.1672043f=0.66720f=4×203×0.667f=40cm
is the focal length of the lens for an object placed in air in the given arrangement
