Question

If S is the sample space for the event A then find the correct alternative from the following :
  1. 0P(A)1
  2. 0P(A)<1
  3. 0<P(A)1
  4. 0P(A)1

A
0P(A)1
B
0P(A)<1
C
0<P(A)1
D
0P(A)1
Solution
Verified by Toppr

A be an event for the sample space S.

Then P(A)=n(A)n(S)

Number of elements in A can be 0 i.e empty set or it can be less than S.

If A is the event which contains all the elements of S, then the probability of A will be 1.

But no. of items in A can't be more than S, then probability can't be more than 1,

Hence, 0P(A)1.
