Question

If two straight lines intersect, the measures of the vertically opposite angle are .................
  1. equal
  2. not equal
  3. cannot be determined
  4. none of these

A
equal
B
cannot be determined
C

D
none of these
Solution
Verified by Toppr

AB and CD are two straight lines intersecting at O.

AOC+AOD=180o [ Linear pair ] ---- ( 1 )

AOD+BOD=180o [ Linear pair ] ---- ( 2 )

From ( 1 ) and ( 2 ), we get

AOC+AOD=AOD+BOD
AOC=BOD

Similarly we can prove, AOD=BOC

We have proved that, If two straight lines intersect, the measures of the vertically opposite angle are equal.
