Question

If voltage across zener diode is $$6V$$ then find out value of maximum resistance in this condition.

A
$$5\ k\Omega$$
B
$$1\ k\Omega$$
C
$$4\ k\Omega$$
D
$$2\ k\Omega$$
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Correct option is D. $$4\ k\Omega$$
b'
Current through the circuit , $$i = \dfrac {30}{R + 1} mA$$

Voltage across $$1\ k\Omega = \dfrac {30}{R + 1} . 1 = \dfrac {30}{R + 1} = v_{z}$$ (Since zener diode is voltage regulator and regulates $$v_z$$ across resistance $$R=1k\Omega$$
Also $$i=6mA$$ (Given)

$$\dfrac {30}{R + 1} = 6$$
$$30 = 6R + 6$$
$$24 = 6R \implies R =\dfrac {24}{6} = 4\ k\Omega$$.
