Question

In a mixture of 126 kg of milk and water, milk and water are in ratio 5:2. How much water must be added to the mixture to make this ratio 3:2?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let x signify water in original mixture and y signifies milk
x+y=126
5x=2y
or x=y2.5
y+(y2.5) =126
y=90kgs(milk)
x=36kgs(water)
Milk remains same as 90 kgs but now ratio is 3:2
let new water content be z
3z=2× 90
Water quantity new =60kgs
Extra water added =24kgs
