Question

In a mixture of 35 litres, the ratio of milk to water is 4:1. If 7 litres of water is added to the mixture, then find the ratio of milk and water in the resulting mixture.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Total mixture=35l

Amount of milk =4x

Amount of water =x

Therefore we have

x+4x=35l

5x=35l

x=355l

x=7l

Amount of water =x=7l

Amount of milk =4x=4×7l=28l

If 7 liters of water is added then the amount of water =14l

Amount of milk =28l

and the ratio of milk : water will be

28l:14l

=2l:1l.
