Question

In electrolysis
  1. positive ions move towards the positive electrode and negative ions towards the negative electrode.
  2. positive ions move towards the negative electrode and negative ions towards the positive electrode.
  3. both ions move towards both the electrodes in equal amounts until they are balanced.
  4. none of the above

A
positive ions move towards the positive electrode and negative ions towards the negative electrode.
B
both ions move towards both the electrodes in equal amounts until they are balanced.
C
none of the above
D
positive ions move towards the negative electrode and negative ions towards the positive electrode.
Solution
Verified by Toppr

In electrolysis, the positive ions produced are attracted towards the negative electrode. Thus positive ions move towards the negative electrode. Whereas, negative ions produced are attracted towards the positive electrode. Hence negative ions move towards the positive electrode.
