Question

In photoelectric effect, why should the photoelectric current increases as the intensity of monochromatic radiation incident on a photosensitive surface is increased? Explain

Solution
Verified by Toppr

The photoelectric current increases proportionally with the increase in intensity of incident radiation. Larger the intensity of incident radiation, larger is the number of incident photons and hence larger is the number of electron ejected from the photosensitive surface.

Light of intensity 'I' and frequency 'v' is incident on a photosensitive surface and causes photoelectric emission. What will be the effect on anode current when (i) the intensity of light is gradually increased, (ii) the frequency of incident radiation is increased, and (iii) the anode potential is increased? In each case, all other factors remain the same.
