Question

In the electric network shown, when no current flows through the 4 Ω resistor in the arm EB the potential difference between the points A and D will be

  1. 5 V
  2. 3 V
  3. 6 V
  4. 4 V

A
4 V
B
3 V
C
6 V
D
5 V
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let the potential of point B=0
Potential of point A and C will be 9V and 3V respectively.
By applying KCL at E
I1+I3=I2
as I3=0I1=I2
Also as I3=0
VE=VB+4=4volts
VE=VD=4volts
Potential difference between point A and D will be
=VAVD
=(94)volts
=5volts=5V
(Thus option A)
