In a Metal, the bonds are metallic i.e. non-directional. There are no localized bonds. Hence the metal ions can easily slide over another metal ions (i.e. can more from one lattice to another). Due to this metals can be made into thin sheets without breaking the metallic bonds and so they are malleable.
In a metallic bond, electrons are shared with more than one atoms. Hence they are non-directional.
Hence both assertion and reason are correct and reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
