Question

Mark against the correct answer in each of the following:
What must be subtracted from $$-1$$ to get $$-6?$$

A
5
B
-7
C
-5
D
7
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Correct option is A. 5
Let us assume closure property of subtraction [a - b= c]
Let,
$$a = -1,$$ missing integer $$b= x,$$ and $$c = 6$$
$$\Rightarrow -1-(x) = -6$$

By transposing $$-6$$ from the right hand side to the left hand side it becomes $$6$$ and $$-x$$ from the left hand side to the right hand side it becomes $$x$$

$$\Rightarrow -1+6 = x$$
$$\Rightarrow x=5$$
