Ganga and Yamuna are originated in garhwal himalayas.
Ganga is formed by confluence of two rivers Alaknanda and Baghirithi.
The waters of the Alakananda are formed by snowmelt from peaks such as Nanda devi, Trishul and Kamet.
while waters of Bhaghiriti rises from gangotri glacier, at Gomukh.

Yamuna is originated from yamunotri glacier at height of 6,387m
on the south western slope of Banderpoonch peak.
