'Wild Life Protection Act' was passed in 1972 and amended in 1991. According to this act, hunting of animals and exploitation of certain plants are completely prohibited. It allows for setting up and managing national parks, sanctuaries, zoos, controls trade in wildlife and wildlife products and trophies.
