The plant extract dissolved in ethanol is known as tincture and it has antiseptic properties which prevent the growth of bacteria. Tincture of iodine contains 2-7% of iodine along with sodium or potassium iodide dissolved in ethanol and water. It is applied on cuts and wounds to heal them.
