Question

Polymers can be classified based on molecular forces.
(a) Classify the following polymers into elastomers and fibres:
Rubber, Nylon 6,6, Buna-S, Terylene
(b) What do you mean by thermosetting polymers? Give one example.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

(a) Classification:
Elastomers : Rubber and Buna-S
Fibres: Nylon 6, 6 and Terylene
(b) Thermosetting polymers:
They do not become soft on heating under pressure. They cannot be remoulded and recycled. These are cross linked polymers and cannot be reused. For example, Bakelite.
