Question

Prior to protein synthesis, DNA
  1. attracts tRNAs with appropriate amino acids
  2. contains anticodons that must become codons
  3. must first undergo replication
  4. serves as a template for the production of mRNA

A
attracts tRNAs with appropriate amino acids
B
must first undergo replication
C
contains anticodons that must become codons
D
serves as a template for the production of mRNA

Protein synthesis is the process of translation where proteins are formed due to the presence of bases on the mRNA. This mRNA helps in the formation of proteins that are responsible for certain functions. Before the process translation, another process occurs which is termed as transcription. In transcription mRNA is produced from DNA, here DNA acts as a template and forms its complementary mRNA. This is followed by protein synthesis. All these processes are constituted together and are called the central dogma.
So, the correct option is 'Serves as a template for the production of mRNA'.
