The given diagram is of a plant cell. W- Nucleus; X- Cytoplasm; Y- Cell wall; Z-Cell membrane. The nucleus is the largest organelle in a plant cell. It is enclosed by a double membrane called the nuclear envelope. The nucleus serves to protect DNA information. It is within the cytoplasm that most cellular activities occur, such as many metabolic pathways including glycolysis and processes such as cell division. A cell wall is composed of cellulose and hemicellulose, pectin and lignin, and is secreted by the protoplast on the outside of the cell membrane. The cell membrane is semi-permeable, allowing some substances to pass into the cell and blocking others.
