Question

Solve the following pair of equations by method of substitution:
x2y=2 and xy=1

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given equations are
x2y=2 .....(1)
and xy=1 ....(2)
Therefore, x=y+1 ....(3)
Substitute this value in equation (3), we get
y+12y=2
y=3
Put this value in equation (3),
x=3+1=4
Therefore, the solution is x=4,y=3.
