Question

Sound travels with difference speed in different media. In what order does the velocity of sound increase in these media ?
  1. water, iron and air
  2. iron, air and water
  3. air, water and iron
  4. iron, water and air

A
iron, air and water
B
air, water and iron
C
iron, water and air
D
water, iron and air
Solution
Verified by Toppr

We know speed of sound in solids is maximum and in gases is minimum i.e. vs>vl>vg ,
as iron is solid , so speed of sound in iron will be maximum and in air being a gaseous mixture , is minimum
Thus air ,water ,iron , is the correct increasing order .
