Split the following shapes into rectangles and find the area of each. (The measures are given in centimeters)

From figure we can see that,
By, making line $$CF$$ we can split given figure into two rectangles.
So, from figure,
$$\text{Total Area=Area[(ABGH)+(CDEF)]}$$
$$\text{Area(ABGH) = AH x AB = 5 x 1 = 5 cm}^2\cdots\cdots(1)$$

$$\text{Area(CDEF) = CD x DE = 4 x 1 = 4 cm}^2\cdots\cdots(2)$$

So, from $$(1)$$ and $$(2)$$
$$\text{Total Area = 5+4 = 9 cm}^2$$
