Question

State the consequence if the electrostatic precipitator of a thermal plant fails to function.

Solution
Verified by Toppr

An electrostatic precipitator (ESP) uses the principle of charging particulate matter suspended in an exhaust which is then allowed to settle down over variably or differently charged platforms. If an ESP of a thermal plant fails to function, all the smoke and fly ash released from these plants are released into the atmosphere. These particulate matters then contribute to air pollution causing deterioration of air quality. They cause clogging of stomata, reduced light absorption by plants, asthma, and other allergic reactions in humans.
