In a rectangular coordinate system, the coordinate axes are chosen such that they form a pair of perpendicular lines.

The coordinate axes divide the plane into four quadrant as shown in the above figure.
They cut at a point (0,0) called origin such that the four quadrants has a pair of co-ordinates with different signs.
For example, All the points in Ist quadrant has both the co-ordinates positive.
And as they intersect each other at origin, they form a pair of perpendicular lines.
Hence, the given statement is true.
