Since, the medium from which the ray initially enters and the medium in which it finally emerges are the same, then due to symmetry, the angle of incidence at the second interface will be the same as the angle of incidence on the first medium. 
Thus, the angle of incidence at the second medium is not greater than the critical angle, hence the ray will not undergo total internal reflection
