Question

A compound $$(A)$$ called vanillin is isolated from vanilla seeds. Molecular formula of vanillin is $$C_{8}H_{8}O_{3}$$, Vanillin gives violet colour on treatment with neutral $$FeCI_{3}$$. It also gives a silver mirror with Tollens' reagent. Each mole of vanillin gives one mole of $$AgI$$ when subjected to Zeisel's active methoxy estimation.
$$Vanillin \xrightarrow {Conc. HBr} compound (B)$$;
Compound $$(B)$$ can also be obtained from catechol by Gattermann-Koch reaction.
