Question

Assertion :Taq Polymerase is involved in PCR technique Reason: This enzyme remain active during the high temperature including denaturation of double stranded DNA.
  1. Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
  2. Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
  3. Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
  4. Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect

A
Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
B
Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
C
Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect
D
Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Taq Polymerase is used in PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) to extend the primers that anneal to the ends of template DNA and complete the replication of the rest DNA strands. Hence, assertion is correct.
Taq Polymerase is derived from a thermophilic bacterium Thermus aquaticus. This bacterium grows naturally in hot springs at a temperature of 90° C and hence, the enzyme Taq Polymerase doesn't get denatured by high temperature in the PCR steps. Hence, reason is also correct and is correct explanation for assertion.
So, the correct answer is 'Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion'.
