Question

Assertion :The acceleration of a body moving up a rough inclined plane when it is pulled up by a force, depends only on its mass. Reason: Frictional force acts in the direction of the applied force.
  1. Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
  2. Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
  3. Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
  4. Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect

A
Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
B
Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
C
Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
D
Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The force required to move a body up an inclined plane having coefficient of friction μ is given by:
F=mg(sinα+μcosα). So the acceleration of the body will be:
a=F/m=g(sinα+μcosα) which is independent of its mass.

in this case friction acts opposite to the applied force.
