Question

The capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor with air as medium is 3 μF. As a dielectric is introduced between the plates, the capacitance becomes 15 μF. The permittivity of the medium in C2N1m2 is
  1. 0.44×1010
  2. 8.15×1011
  3. 15.2×1012
  4. 1.6×1014

A
0.44×1010
B
8.15×1011
C
15.2×1012
D
1.6×1014
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Capacitance of air capacitor
C0=ε0Ad=3μF ......... (i)
When a dielectric of permittivity εr and dielectric constant K is introduced between the plates, then
Capacitance, C=Kε0Ad=15μF ..... (ii)
Dividing eq. (ii) by (i), we get
CC0=KϵoAdε0Ad=153
K=5
permittivity of the medium
ε0=ε0K
=8.85×1012×5=0.44×1010
