Let the cost of book is Rs x and cost of pencil is Rs y

Then cost of 4 books and 3 pencil =4x+3y

And cost of 8 books and 1 pencil =8x+y

As per question both are same

$4x+3y=8x+y\Rightarrow 4x-8x=y-3y\Rightarrow -4x=-2y\Rightarrow x=\frac{1}{2}y$

Then cost of 4 books and 3 pencil =4x+3y

$4\times \frac{y}{2}+3y=2y+3y=5y$ Rs
