Question

The density of a mixture of O2 and N2 NTP is 1.3g/L. Calculate partial pressure of O2.
  1. 0.38 atm
  2. 0.28 atm
  3. 0.48 atm
  4. 0.18 atm

A
0.28 atm
B
0.18 atm
C
0.38 atm
D
0.48 atm
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let 1 mol of gas is present.So, 22.4 L will be volume of the mixture
Density=massvolume
Molar Mass of Mixture is 1.3×22.4=29.12 g/mol
% of oxygen present in mixture = x
% of nitrogen present in mixture = 1-x
Molar Mass of oxygen and nitrogen are 32 and 28 g/mol respectively
32(x) + 28(1-x) = 29.12
x = 0.28
Partial pressure of O2 is 0.28 atm
