Question

The difference between the outer curved surface area and the inner curved surface area of a hollow cylinder is 352 cm2. If its height is 28 cm and the volume of material in it is 704 cm3; find its external curved surface area.
  1. 528 cm2
  2. 520 cm2
  3. 525 cm2
  4. 527 cm2

A
525 cm2
B
527 cm2
C
528 cm2
D
520 cm2
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let r1= outer surface area, r2= inner surface area, length h=28
Outer curved surface area of cylinder =2πr1hcm2
Inner curved surface area of cylinder =2πr2hcm2
Difference between two curved surface area cylinder =2π(28)(r1r2)=352cm2
r1r2=2.......(1)
Volume of cylinder =π(r21r22)h=π(r21r22)(28)=704
r21r22=8.....(2)
Solving, (2),(r1r2)(r1+r2)=8
2(r1+r2)=8
r1+r2=4.....(3)
From (1) and (3), r1=3,r2=1
External curved surface =2πrh=2π(3)(28)=528cm2
