  1. Both A and R are true and R explains A.
  2. Both A and R are true but R does not explain A.
  3. A is true and R is false.
  4. A is false and R is true.

Both A and R are true but R does not explain A.
C
A is false and R is true.
D

The equator faces the sun directly. Therefore, equatorial regions receive more amount of solar energy. But in the polar regions, the sunlight falls obliquely. Thus, these regions receive less solar energy. So we can say that the amount of solar energy received by a region changes with latitude. So, the statement of assertion is correct.
If we go to high altitude, the temperature decreases as the density of the atmosphere reduce gradually as we go up. So, the statement of reason is also correct.
But, the assertion and reason are two different facts. Therefore, the reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
