Amīr Khusrow was born in 1253 at Patiyali near Etah in modern-day Uttar Pradesh. He served as courtier, royal poet and court musician under Turkish Sultans. He was a prolific classical poet associated with the royal courts of more than seven rulers of the Delhi Sultanate. He is also associated with the courts of Alauddin Khilji. He wrote the "Khaza'in ul-Futuh" (The treasures of victory) recording Alauddin's construction works, wars, administrative services.
