Question

The following data gives the marks of 20 students in Mathematics (X) and statistics (Y), each out of 10, expressed as (x, y). Construct an ungrouped frequency distribution, considering single numbers as a class:
(2, 7), (3, 8), (4, 9), (2, 8), (5, 6), (5, 7), (4, 9), (3, 8), (4, 8), (2, 9), (3, 8), (4, 8), (5, 6), (4, 7),
(4, 7), (4, 6), (5, 6), (5, 7), (4, 6), (5, 5).

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given are the marks of 20 students in Mathematics (X) and Statistics (Y) out of 10, in the form of (x,y), as:
(2,7),(3,8),(4,9),(2,8),(5,6),(5,7),(4,9),(3,8),(4,8),(2,9),
(3,8),(4,8),(5,6),(4,7),(4,7),(4,6),(5,6),(5,7),(4,6),(5,5)
For constructing an ungrouped frequency distribution table, we will take the marks in one column and the corresponding number of students in another. Note that, here we have marks for two subjects. Hence, we will need two columns for number of students, one for Mathematics and one for Statistics.
Hence, the ungrouped frequency distribution table will be as shown below:

Marks Number of Students (Mathematics)Number of Students (Statistics)
10 0
2 3 0
3 3 0
4 8 0
5 6 1
6 0 5
7 0 5
8 0 6
9 0 3
10 0 0
