Question

The gas which causes yellowing of Taj mahal:
  1. H2S
  2. SO2
  3. CO2
  4. NH3

A
H2S
B
NH3
C
SO2
D
CO2
Solution
Verified by Toppr

SO2 reacts with the moisture present in the air and forms sulphuric acid. The sulphuric acid formed comes down along with rainwater and is known as acid rain. The acid rain that falls on the marbles leads to corrosion and yellowing of the marble. Thus yellowing of marble is not caused by H2S, CO2 or NH3 instead it is caused by SO2.
Hence, option B is correct.
