 They generally occur in the diplotene stage of anima oocytes and spermatocytes.

 During the process of meiosis the number of pair of the granular loops gradually increases and reaches to the maximum during diplotene.

 So the assertion and reason are correct but the reason cannot correctly explain the assertion.
