Savings = salary - expenditure
Savings $$ = 12,000 - 8,500 $$
$$ = 3,500 $$
The ratio between savings and salary will be as given below
$$ 3,500 : 12,000 = 3500 / 12000 $$
On simplification , we get
$$ = \dfrac{35}{120} $$
$$ = \dfrac{7}{24} $$
$$ = 7 : 24 $$
$$ \therefore \, $$ The ratio between savings and salary will be $$ 7 : 24 $$
