Verified by Toppr

Let the last year population =x

It is given that, population of a town increases by 8%.

Present year population =x+8% of x

=x+8x100

=108x100

Present population =54000
108x100=54000
x=54000×100108

x=500×100

x=50,000

Therefore, the population in last year is 50000.
