Question

The position of an object moving along x-axis is given by x = a + bt2, where a = 8.5 m and b = 2.5 m s2 and t is measured in seconds. The average velocity of the object between t = 2 s and t = 4 s is
  1. 20 m s1
  2. 5 m s1
  3. 10 m s1
  4. 15 m s1

A
15 m s1
B
20 m s1
C
5 m s1
D
10 m s1
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Position is given as x=a+bt2=8.5+2.5t2

Position at t=2 s, x2=8.5+2.5(2)2=18.5 m

Position at t=4 s, x1=8.5+2.5(4)2=48.5 m

Displacement S=x2x1=48.518.5=30 m

Time taken t=42=2 s

Average velocity Vavg=St=302=15 m/s
