The present age of a father is $$42$$ years and that of his son is $$14$$ years.

Find the ratio of age of the father to the age of the son, when the son was $$12$$ years old.

the age of the son was $$12$$ years and the age of the father was $$42$$ -$$2=40$$ years
Required ratio$$=\dfrac{40}{12}=\dfrac{4\times 10}{4\times 3}=\dfrac{10}{3}$$.
