Question

The radii of two metallic spheres are 5 cm and 10 cm and both carry an equal charge of 75μC. If the two spheres are shorted then the charge will be transferred
  1. 25μC from smaller to bigger
  2. 25μC from bigger to smaller
  3. 50μC from smaller to bigger
  4. 50μC from bigger to smaller

A
50μC from smaller to bigger
B
50μC from bigger to smaller
C
25μC from smaller to bigger
D
25μC from bigger to smaller
Solution
Verified by Toppr

r1=5cm,r2=10cm,
C1=75μC,C2=75μC
Due to different radius
Potential will be different
Let final charge be q1&q2
At equillibrium
V1=V2
Kq1r1=Kq2r2
q2=2q1.......(1)
And total charge will be 75+75
q1+q2=150.......(2)
2q1+q1=150
q1=50μC,q2=100μC
