Question

The radius and height of a cone are each increased by 20% then the volume of the cone is increased by
  1. 20%
  2. 40%
  3. 60%
  4. 72.8%

A
20%
B
60%
C
72.8%
D
40%
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The correct option is D 72.8%
Let the base radius and height of cone is r and h respt.
Then volume =13πr2h cu cm
If Base radius increased 20% new radius =r×120100=65r cm
If Base height increased 120% new height =h×120100=65h cm
So volume of new cone =13(65r)2×65h=216125×13πr2h
Then increased of new and old volume=216125×13πr2h13πr2h=91125(13πr2h)
% of increased=91125×13πr2h13πr2h×100=72.8%
