Question

The radius of the base and the height of a right circular cylinder are each increased by 10%, then the volume of the cylinder is increased by
  1. 30%
  2. 40%
  3. 42%
  4. 33.1%

A
42%
B
33.1%
C
30%
D
40%
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let the original radius and height be r and h, respectively.
So, the volume of cylinder =πr2h .......(1)

Since, the radius and height are each increased by 10%, then
The new radius =1.1r and new height =1.1h.

Therefore, the new volume of the cylinder will be
=π(1.1r)2×(1.1h)
=1.331×πr2h .........(2)

Therefore, the required percentage
=1.331πr2hπr2hπr2h×100
=0.331πr2hπr2h×100
=33.1%

Hence, this is the answer.
