Question

The ratio between the rates of walking of A and B is 2:3. If the time taken by B to cover a distance is 24 minutes, find the time taken by A to cover the same distance.
  1. 12 minutes
  2. 36 minutes
  3. 24 minutes
  4. 48 minutes

A
48 minutes
B
12 minutes
C
24 minutes
D
36 minutes
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Ratio of the speeds of A and B = 2 : 3.
Let the speed of A=2x km/min
Hence the speed of B=3x km/min
B takes 24 minutes to cover some distance.
Hence, Distance=Time×Speed=24×3x=72x
For A,
Time=DistanceSpeed=72x2x=36
Hence, the time taken by A to cover the same distance is 36 minutes.
