Question

Assertion :The resistivity of the semiconductor increases with temperature. Reason: The atoms of semiconductor vibrate with larger amplitude at higher temperature thereby increasing its resistivity.
  1. Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
  2. Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
  3. Assertion is incorrect but Reason is correct
  4. Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect

A
Both Assertion and Reason are incorrect
B
Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion
C
Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
D
Assertion is incorrect but Reason is correct
Solution
Verified by Toppr

The resistivity of a semiconductor decreases with temperature. This is because of increasing temperature, the electrons in the valence band gain sufficient thermal energies to jump to the conduction band. As the number of electrons in the conduction band increases, so conductivity increases and resistivity decreases. Both assertion and reason are incorrect.
