Question

The total surface area of a solid cylinder is 462cm2. Its curved surface area is one third of total surface area. Find the volume of the cylinder.
  1. 229 cm3
  2. 509 cm3
  3. 439 cm3
  4. 539 cm3

A
229 cm3
B
509 cm3
C
439 cm3
D
539 cm3
Solution
Verified by Toppr

Given:

TSA=462cm2=2πr(r+h)

CSA=2πrh=13(TSA)=13×462=154cm2

TSACSA=2πr2

308=2πr2

7×30822×2=r2

r=7cm

CSA=154=2πrh

154=2×227×7×h

3.5cm=h

volume = πr2h=227×7×7×3.5cm3

=539cm3
