Question

The vertices of a triangle are (-2, 0), (2, 3) and (1, -3) is the triangle equilateral, isosceles or scalene?

Solution
Verified by Toppr

Let A(2,0),B(2,3) and C(1,3)
Distance between two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) can be calculated using the formula
(x2x1)2+(y2y1)2

Distance between the points AB =(2+2)2+(30)2=16+9=25=5

Distance between the points BC =(12)2+(33)2=1+37=37

Distance between the points AC =(1+2)2+(30)2=9+9=18
Since all the sides are of different length, the triangle is a scalene triangle.
